Political insights at South Australia Congress

November 5, 2009

Langdon BlightNo matter what your affiliation or interest, politics is a constant in our world. The accounting profession is affected by what happens in the political arena through legislation and public policy issues and decisions that affect the finance sector and the wider community.

At this year’s Congress we have a number of speakers who will provide us with fascinating insights into Australian politics over the past four decades, from both sides of the debate.

Trevor Sykes, whose career as a finance journalist has spanned 52 years, will share what are sure to be very interesting anecdotes from his career during Business Breakfast 2, ‘the education of a finance journalist’ on Friday 13 November. Continuing the journalistic theme is our special guest at Friday’s Business Luncheon 2, Dominique Schwartz. The ABC journalist and evening news presenter will speak about her experiences reporting from the frontline of world events, working for Foreign Correspondent, and being the ABC’s Middle East correspondent.

Finally on Friday afternoon, Keynote 4 promises to be an eye opener. The Honourable Kim Beazley, Professorial Fellow in political science and international relations at the University of Western Australia, former Leader of the Opposition and the next Australian Ambassador to the United States (what a mouthful!), will give us an overview of contemporary Australian politics. As someone who worked at the most senior levels of Australian politics for more than 20 years, his insights and commentary promise to be illuminating and thought provoking.

With less than a week to go, the South Australian Division is gearing up for a great few days.  I look forward to seeing you all at our 2009 CPA Congress!

Well, the first four iterations of CPA Congress have just taken place in October and I hope you enjoyed the experience! Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore have all had the chance to experience a wide variety of educational sessions spanning inspirational, technical and strategic topics.

For those in Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, you’ll have the chance to experience CPA Congress in November and for members across the world, you have the chance to experience highlight sessions and member feedback right here on the CPA Congress blog.

To keep everyone in the CPA Congress mood we’ve created a mash-up of three events where we filmed vox-pops , I hope you enjoy and keep coming back for more CPA Congress highlights.
